About

The Sawon (사원) is the Korean term used to describe graduate employees and often represents the lowest rank in the hierarchy chain at large Korean companies. Having been a "Sawon" at a Korean corporation I plan to document some of my experiences and opinions in the hope that it will stimulate interesting discussions on Korean business culture and provide information and advice to other foreigners in Korea who are looking for a Job.

My articles can also be found on the Wall Street Journal Korea Real time blog (http://blogs.wsj.com/korearealtime/) and Korean articles at Huffingtonpost Korea (http://www.huffingtonpost.kr/michael-kocken/)

  1. Hi Michael I just wanted to get your advice on travelling to Korea for the first time. Is it difficult to get around if you know very basic korean? I don't want to miss out on an opportunity to travel to Korea because of this. I would like to just get your honest opinion and advice for someone like me who will be travelling and staying for one year. Regards Vanessa
